Guide About 12V 100Ah battery

Complete Guide about 12V 100AH Battery

Batteries are essential in modern times, we can see batteries now in smartwatches and automobiles like Tesla cars to Electric Generation Plant by Solar. Without Batteries We cannot get back up if the grid fails to give supply during the night. Mostly 12V 100AH batteries are used in this type of system due to their compatibility.

12V 100AH Batteries are made up of 3.6V 10Amp 4 PCs connected in series and 10 strings connected in parallel with a battery management system and protective charging circuit. Sometimes If there is a problem with the battery the output voltage goes up to 16.8V, So our load should be able to handle 16.8V. To start the reaction, Sulphuric acid is added, so this battery is a Lead Acid Battery and should charge at 14.4V.

We can replace lead-acid batteries with lithium Ferrous phosphate cells which also give 12V 5amp when connected 4 in series and 20 strings in parallel. Charging of these batteries should be done at 14.4V which is similar to lead-acid batteries. This battery should be charged with a protection circuit and a balance charging option with a battery management system.

One more option available is the Nickel-metal Hybrid cell that consists of 1.2V connected 10 in series and 10 strings in parallel. These batteries are used in solar lights, cameras, and many places.

1.2V single battery

Each cell has its pros and cons. But the biggest reason is the weight of the battery. Lead Acid batteries are cheaper and generally used in automobiles but the weight of a 12V 100AH battery is 30 kg for 12V 100AH. But luckily this battery comes assembled in an automobile battery shop.

As compared to a lead-acid battery, Lithium batteries are better than lead-acid batteries. LiFePO4 cells offer a reasonable capacity/weight ratio. 100 AH cells are available by connecting 3 cells in series in one module and connecting a battery management system designed for Lithium-iron batteries to see the voltage and temperature of a single cell, maintain all in the same voltage level required safety, and increase the life span of the battery. The weight of Lithium-iron batteries is 15kg which is half of the lead-acid batteries. This battery weight can be down further. For Example, one cell of 3.6V connects 20 parallel circuits to make one block of 3.6V 100amp. Now like these 3 blocks are connected in series, it will give code number as 3S20P. 4 blocks in series and 20 cells in parallel. This complete set would be 4.2 Kg. So, the weight of the battery with the Battery management system and casing would be 5 Kg. The voltage range of this battery will be 12.6V to 8.4V, 12.6V when fully charged, and 8.4V when fully discharged.

The main disadvantage of a Lithium-iron battery is its short life span (nearly 500 cycles) and changes to catch fire if the battery is overcharged or mechanically damaged. Therefore, a Battery management system and a mechanically strong and weatherproof casing are required for the battery pack. All this would be of no use if we fail to put the proper charge for each type of battery according to its characteristics. If above all the points are taken into consideration battery will work smoothly and efficiently in its life cycle.

12V 100AH battery for ups are different compared to the same rating of battery used in an automobile. Technically both have different discharge characteristics. UPS batteries will discharge slowly and can bear heavy discharge current compared to normal automobile batteries. We observe this characteristic by taking a maintenance-free lead-acid battery of automobile vehicles and UPS batteries. Automobile battery has a life span of 4–5 years whereas, UPS battery has a life span of 3–5 years due to their low discharge rate.

12V 100AH batteries used for UPS are available in different sizes. For example, one battery has a size of 331*173*213mm, and the other battery has a size of 407*174*209mm. Here the first one is compact with a little bit more depth whereas, another one is larger but the depth is 4mm less. This Battery comes in glue sealing so there is no fear of leakage of acidic substance from the battery. It gives protection from the explosion and the plates inside it are flat.

VRLA batteries are now widely used in UPS as they are maintenance-free therefore no headache in filling water due to their plate-like structure and no emission of flume and gases.

Tabular batteries consist of advanced technology by which active material is summarized in polyester tubes to prevent shedding. so, this type of battery is used where environmental conditions are rigid and a high rate of temperature change occurs in the atmosphere regularly.

Structural details of the 12V 100AH Batteries for UPS compared to normal batteries:
• The outer encloser of batteries is made up of UL9HB and LU 94V-0 ABS Plastic.
• The negative terminal is made up of special PbCa alloy grids to optimize efficiency and gassing.
• A positive terminal is made up of PbCa grids that lower the rate of corrosion and expand life compared to a normal battery.
• Internal resistance is 4.5m ohm at standard condition.
• Terminal posts are of copper for high conductivity and sustain high current rapidly.

This type of battery is used in various places like UPS, Solar systems, Control systems, Power systems, Windfarms, and Telecommunication systems.
Characteristics of 12V 100AH UPS Batteries:
• Safe to use as it sealed
• Good discharging rate
• Good resistance to overcharge, discharge, and high current.
• Deep cycle application
• Eco-friendly

An increasing number of people moving to renewable sources of energy, such as using electric vehicles, and going for solar street lights instead of normal street lights that depended on greed supply.

Batteries vary from country to country, it depends on many factors such as transportation, and national economies. If you find lower brands you may get cheaper rates. This price mainly depends on the type, brand, type of batteries, place, and transport charge. Hope this information would be fruitful in adding knowledge about rechargeable batteries.
